IF YOU DO NOT BUY FROM A REGISTERED CATTERY, YOU RISK UNFAIR TREATMENT IN THE EVENT SOMETHING GOES AWRY IN THE PURCHASE OF YOUR NEW KITTEN.  THIS IS STRESSFULL FOR ALL INVOLVED, AND MAY IMPACT ON YOUR HOUSEHOLDS EMOTIONS, ESPECIALLY AFTER YOU AND THE FAMILY HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH THE KITTEN OF YOUR CHOICE AND WAITED FOR IT TO BE OLD ENOUGH TO LEAVE.

WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY SO MUCH FOR MY KITTEN?

IN QLD, THE COSTS FOR GOOD MANAGEMENT ARE AS FOLLOWS:CALCULATED AS AVERAGES

DESEXING: $95-$150                                         MICROCHIPPING: $45-$60 BOTH THE ABOVE ARE NOW LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

VACCINATIONS: $45-$70

THUS AT MINIMUM, WHEN THE KITTEN IS BORN, IT WILL COST APPROX $200 MEDICAL RELATED COST AT THE VET PER KITTEN. FOOD COSTS per litter over 12 weeks: $126 MILK, $175MEAT, DRY FOOD$100              COST PER KITTEN: worked on 4 kittens per litter  $376 which is $94 per kitten.  Add to this the cost of litter and cleaning products and it is easily $120 per kitten (instead of $94).   

THEREFORE THE CONSERVATIVE COST OF BRINGING UP A GOOD QUALITY HEALTHY HAPPY KITTEN IS APPROX $401.00 PER kitten. We have not yet costed petrol costs x 2 trips to vet, show costs, advertising, internet and web site costs and there is no mention of labour and so on.

 THE COST OF GOOD QUALITY FOOD.

AT KYAPARK we feed  ROYAL CANIN, kangaroo meat, chicken mince, milk mixture, and some additives.

THE AVERAGE COST OF A BAG OR ROYAL CANIN KITTEN IS $95-$119 PER BAG, eg $10 per kg!. AT KYAPARK ALL OUR STUDS, QUEENS AND BABIES RECEIVE ON DEMAND ROYAL CANIN KITTEN DRY FOOD AT ALL TIMES. AN AVERAGE LITTER OF KITTENS (and of course mum with them) WILL MOTOR THROUGH A 10KG BAG WELL WITHIN THE 12 WEEKS.

KYAPARK ALSO FEEDS QUALITY DICED KANGAROO MEAT (FOR TEETH AND PROTEIN) AND CHICKEN MINCE. KANGAROO IS APPROX $5. PER KG.   MY KITTENS ADORE KANGAROO MEAT AND TOGETHER WITH MUM GOBBLE APPROX A KILO A DAY IN GENERAL.

LITTER COSTS: APPROX $1.00 PER KG. At KyaPark we change each and every litter tray each and every day! No exceptions. This decreases the risk of disease, flies and other nasties. All litter in each tray is completely discarded each morning, and each tray is scooped ever evening. on average each adult cat uses approx 1-2kgs litter per day. Kitten litter trays use upwards of 2 kgs per day as they are completely changed twice a day.

ESSENTIAL MILK:PETAS  MILK MIX                                 1 can evaporated full fat milk $2.50, 1 can water, 1 Tblspn Praise Mayonaise, 2-3 Tblspns Ski Divine full fat yoghurt, i egg yolk.        approx cost per day  $300 again mum and babies have this every day throughout the kittens growing period 12weeks, until they leave home   if we halve this figure to get a rough average it works to $126 over the 12 weeks.

meat costs:calculated on the mum eating 1/2 kg per day the last 3 weeks of her pregnancy and the 1st 6 weeks of kittens life eg until weaning, and 1kg per day for the last 6 weeks of kitten eg until 12 weeks of age and the mum as well. Kittens at Kyaprk are weaned at approx 10 weeks, all being well.The chicken meat is used more as an additive for fat content (there is not enough fat content in kangaroo alone), and has not been costed at all but is $2.20per kg
